Our Approach

Our clients often require a research partner that has a comprehensive understanding of their needs.  They demand a research team that will work closely with them to not only ensure their needs are met but also that their research partner truly understands their organization.

We do our research long before we begin working with clients.  Oftentimes, being awarded a project means we’ve gone through the entire proposal process and at this stage we have extensively studied the organization’s mission and core values.  We’ve also investigated what other similar organizations are doing, obtained information about best practices in the field, and in partnership with our clients, we formulated sound research questions and crafted methodologies to answer them.

Once we are selected as the research partner, we meet with our clients to discuss their goals and objectives for their research. We also go over any budgetary or resource limitations that may impact what the client “needs to know” vs. what would be “nice to know.”

Ultimately, our clients appreciate our extensive research and professional experience and our employment of rigorous quantitative and qualitative research methodologies. Since we collaborate with and engage our clients throughout the entire research process, all of us gain insight and understanding of the research and the findings. This iterative process has proven highly successful and has generated usable and sustainable research results for our clients.

Leadership Team

Dr. Martin Hill

Dr. Martin (Marty) Hill has over two decades of research experience across academic, governmental, and private settings. He has a Ph.D. in sociology, with a concentration in medical sociology and applied research and evaluation.

Throughout his career he has provided a wide range of research services, including survey research, program evaluation, needs assessment, and consultation integrating both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. His approach to research is to treat the client as a research partner from formulation of research questions to utilizing research findings in optimal ways. When approaching client partnerships, Marty always emphasizes the role of collaboration resulting in meaningful research.

Marty completed his first post-graduate research training with the U.S. Department of Justice/Bureau of Prisons as a Research Analyst evaluating drug treatment programs throughout the federal prison system.  He received the Special Act Award for his contribution to the research in this area.  Following this, Marty worked as a Senior Research Associate for the Kercher Center for Social Research at Western Michigan University (WMU).   During his work at the Kercher Center for Social Research worked on various social research projects, many which focused on evaluating county drug courts and other community programs and initiatives.  Upon completion of his doctoral training at WMU, Marty ventured into the private sector where he worked in market research and public opinion research on both the client side (McDougal Littell, now Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) and the supplier side (Opinion Research Corporation).  Most recently, Marty was the Director of the Carl Frost Center for Social Science Research at Hope College where he spearheaded numerous research projects for both for- and non-profit organizations.

Marty’s unique combination of education and research experience, coupled with his approach to research and working with clients has enabled him to foster many lengthy and successful client relationships.
